Opportunity to gain experience in a thriving and developing team: The EST was founded in 2010 and has been growing over the years. We now have more than 150 members from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds.

A Global Network: The EST is your chance to work closely with an international team of Ambassadors, writers, researchers, editors and creatives from both European and non-European countries, and to form connections based on your common interests.

Skills: Volunteering for the EST will shape and develop a variety of skills, from your ability to communicate in a team and organise around differing commitments, to strengthening your understanding of events’ management, the different publications and writing styles through our training workshops.

We are more than happy to provide a recommendation letter for our contributors once they finish their terms with us.

Are you passionate about Europe? Do you have a high command of the English language and an eye for detail? Are you a great coordinator? Then you are in luck because the EST is currently looking for a new Editor-in-Chief!

As Editor-in-Chief of the EST, you will be in charge of the Editorial Office with regular support of the Deputy Editors-in-Chief. In this position you will have the capacity to excel in all your responsibilities and guarantee a smooth running of the Editorial Office. This role will demand 5-10 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Editorial Office along with your Deputy Editors-in-Chief
  • Co-coordinate the editorial process of all written output of the organisation
  • Oversee and coordinate the publishing of the peer-reviewed European Policy Review journal and the annual European Policy Prize. 
  • Engage regularly with other departments, specially the International Office, the Working Groups, and the Communications Team.
  • Oversee the collaboration of the EST’s Expert Advisory Board, a panel of academic and professional experts that provide strategic advice to the EST.
  • Provide trainings on editing and policy writing for other EST members
  • Establish and uphold editing and writing guidelines to uphold academic rigour within the EST
  • Attend Board Meetings and take part in decisions relevant to the organisation

The Call for Applications will be open until June 29th 2025 (23:59h CEST). Applications will be screened on a rolling basis, so you can be contacted for an interview between the end of June and July 2025. If we find suitable candidates before the deadline, the EST reserves the right to close the call earlier. 

Official expected start date is August 2025. However, you might be requested to engage in other preparatory tasks during the last 2 weeks of July to ensure a smooth start of your term.
