Applications for Writers (OPEN)

Calling all students and young professionals! The European Student Think Tank (EST) is looking to recruit new writers to become an integral part of our Editorial Office. As a writer, you will work in an online space alongside our talented editors to produce insightful and engaging articles about all things Europe.

The EST was established in 2010 to provide a platform for young academics to critically explore European affairs, engage with contemporary issues, and develop strong connections with like-minded people. The EST has now accrued a mass following (14,000 Facebook followers and 31,000 LinkedIn followers), so your work will be consumed and appreciated by a wide audience.

As a writer, you will be tasked with writing short articles, academic papers, and/or policy memos on subject matters relating to European affairs. You will also be afforded the opportunity to enter into our highly acclaimed European Policy Prize (EPP) or publish an article in the European Policy Review (EPR).

Requirements

  • You should have, or be in the process of getting a university degree. Bachelor, Master, and PhD students are welcome, as well as young professionals.
  • You should have an excellent command of the English language (C1).
  • You should have a strong understanding of and interest in European affairs.
  • You should have a working knowledge of APA style referencing.
  • You should be ready to commit to the EST for the term 2024-25 (one article required every 2-3 months).
  • You should submit a writing sample (this can be a university paper or a previously published article).

Benefits

  • Produce high-quality articles: As a writer in the EST you have the opportunity to write regular articles while benefiting from the guidance of our editors on your writing and argumentation.
  • Get published in a variety of outlets: In addition to having your work published on our website and social media channels, writing for the EST provides you with the opportunity to be featured in our peer-reviewed journal, the European Policy Review.
  • Build a global network: The EST is your chance to work closely with an international team of students and young professionals from both European and non-European countries, and to form connections based on common interests.
  • Strengthen your skills: As a writer in the EST, you have access to a range of trainings and opportunities to develop your soft skills, including academic writing, policy-writing, public speaking, teamwork, and communication.
  • Boost your CV and receive a certificate: Being a writer in the EST looks great to employers, as it demonstrates a sustained understanding of international and European affairs, and a great interest in and commitment to shaping policy! In addition, we are more than happy to provide a recommendation letter for our writers once they finish their term with us.

Application Process

You can submit your application by filling out this form. You will have to answer a few short questions, as well as uploading your CV (max. 2 pages), motivation letter, and a writing sample (1000-3000 words).

The Call for Applications will be open until 23rd October 2024. Applications will be screened on a rolling basis, so you can be contacted for an interview as of the beginning of October. If we find suitable candidates before the deadline, the EST reserves the right to close the call earlier.
